MCVEYTOWN - Violet J. Bair, 82, of State Route 103 South, McVeytown, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at her home. Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Cambria County, she was a daughter of the late James "Guy" Goshorn and the late Luvania (Moore) Goshorn Daniels. Her husband, Mearl E. Bair Jr., whom she married March 3, 1942, died in combat on March 3, 1944, at Anzio beachhead while serving with Company A of the 4th Ranger Battalion, Fifth Army, during World War II. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Zane (Luvania) Renninger, McVeytown R.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wojnarek, Bethany Village, Horseheads, NY, and Mrs. Virginia Jury, McVeytown, R.D.; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter, Luvania Renninger; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Goshorn, and three infant brothers. She was a former cook at the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind, and the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Training Camp. She was a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Ryde Otterbein United Methodist Church for thirty years. She was a longtime children's Sunday School teacher. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Robert A. Brown Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Newton Hamilton Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
