George and family were residents of Coffee Run, Huntingdon Co., PA. He entered into service on 7 March 1865 at Hollidaysburg, PA in Company "K", 78th Regiment of PA Vols. to serve one year during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. "K" of that Regiment, for the month dated Sept. 11th 1865, he is reported "Discharged June 3, 1865 from Hospital of Nashville, Tenn. by order of War Dept. dated May 30, 1865." He died at his home in Huntingdon County and State of Pennsylvania of disease contracted in the line of duty. He took sick at Nashville, Tenn. on or about the 28th of April AD 1865 and shortly afterward he was sent to Post Hospital at Nashville, Tenn., about this time the weather was very bad and rough and he had to take his turn on duty when he was hardly fit to do so and his sickness was brought on by exposure and cold. He took sick with bronchitis or lung disease and chronic diarrhea and that he died from the effects of said diseases on the thirtieth of October AD 1865.
