A member of the infamous Quantrill's Raiders and Bloody Bill Anderson's Confederate guerrillas in MO during the Civil War. Killed in action in Oct. 1864. His family home in Johnson Co., MO, was burnt down in the spring of 1862 along with several others, reportedly by the local Union militia. The house was said to be a meeting place for "bushwhackers," and Capt. Houts had been heard by a number of persons threatening to set fire to the place.
