As the oldest son George inherited his father's inn, The Seven Stars, at the corner of 4th & Arch streets in Philadelphia, which he ran from 1807-1811, before his father died in 1818.
Over the years George was a storekeeper dealing in china and flour and also worked as a tallow chandler (candle maker).
He married Anna Margaret Kunckle on May 8, 1806, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. They were the parents of five children.
