Patesville, Kentucky in Hancock County was founded by William Minor Pate. He established an inn there in 1803 named Pate's Station. He also initiated the postal service there on October 19, 1812.
During Civil War, the area was the site of a gun battle pitting CSA guerrillas, Sue Mundy, Bill Davison and Henry Magruder, against John Clark's Union troops.
During its heyday in 1895, Patesville was a town of 250 people with a sawmill, three general stores, a millinery, drug store, blacksmith shop, undertaker's parlor, and hotel.
