Olaf Almon, 57, retired farmer north of town and life long resident of this community, succumbed at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Deaconess hospital in Evansville where he was taken Saunday, Sept. 16 for observation and treatment. He had been in failing health for the past six years, suffering from a heart ailment, which was greatly aggravated by serious injuries received in an automobile accident in January fo 1949, near Birmingham, Ala., when he and his wife were on their way south to visit a daughter. The body was brought to the P.C. Werry & Son Funeral home here and returned to the late residence Wednesday. He was the son of Bailey and Etta Baldwin Almon, the father a son of early settlers in the township. He was a member of the Black River General Baptist church, serving as a trustee for a number of years and active in all its work as long as he was able. He was a quite person, whose interests centered chiefly in his home and family, although his fine character, integrity and industry brought him the high regard of everyone in the community. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Stewartsville. He is survived by the wife, nee Lela Creek, three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Nottingham, near Poseyville, Mrs. Alma Ruth Kincheloe, of Stewartsville, and Mrs. Mary Frances Crowe, of Cullman, Ala., six grandchildren and one brother, Larkin Almon, near Stewartsville. Funeral services were held at the Black River church at 2 o'clock this afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Robert Bulkley officiating. Burial was in the Poseyville cemetery.
