Susannah is believed to be the daughter of George Sprankle & Eva Wecht. It has not been proven.

She married Joseph Custanbauter. This surname has a myriad of spelling variations, some starting with "C" and others with "K."

They married in Huntingdon Co., PA and moved to St. Joseph Co., MI by 1860.

We understand that Joseph was born 26 Jan 1820 in Northampton Co., PA. We do not know when or where he died. One family story is that he was killed by Indians in Nebraska. We do not know if that is true. We know he was living at the time the 1870 census was taken in Carroll Co., MO. By 1880, the widowed Susannah was living in LaSalle Co., IL.

A 1905 newspaper article in a Centre Co., PA newspaper, the Democratic Watchman, relates that Susannah and her daughter Margaret Cline visited in Centre Co. The article does not state who she visited. However, at that time, two of George Sprankle & Eva Wecht's children, Daniel Sprankle and Catherine Sprankle Bressler, were still alive and living in Centre Co., and Caroline Sprankle Weaver Tompkins lived in neighboring Blair Co. This gives additional validity to Susannah being from this family.

Susannah & Joseph had at least four children: Mary (Robinson, Farmer); Henrietta (Parker); Angeline (Burget, Gilbert); & Margaret A. (Casler, Cline).
