Clyde Alexander Best

Mr. Clyde Alexander Best, 93, of Lumberton, died February 23, 2011 at the Southeastern Hospice House. He was born October 31, 1917 in Columbus County, the son of the late Alexander G. Best & Fannie Sasser Best.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Vennie Blackwell Best and Inez Spivey Phillips Best; his parents; brothers, Ray Francis, Leo, Wilbur Guy and Kimble Best; a sister, Barbara Best Sufnar.

He is survived by a brother, Horace Best and wife, Dorothy of Millsboro, DE; three sisters, Virginia Burns of Bear, DE, Lucille Cochran of Pugallup, W A, and Doris Pelky of Wilmington, DE; his children, Henry & Gayle Lewis of Lumberton; two grandsons, Henry G. (Hank) Lewis, Jr. & wife, Trish, of Lumberton and Alexander Lewis & wife, Hilca, of Hope Mills; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Christian, Aiden & Isaiah Lewis; sister-in-law Thelma Best of Whiteville; brother-in-law, Louis Sufnar; many loving nieces and nephews; stepson, Earl Ray Phillips.

A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery by Rev. Tim Rausch.

The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 PM, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Peacock Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Henry & Gayle Lewis in Lumberton at 308 Oxford Rd or at the home of Guy Best, Jr., 311 W. Lewis St., Whiteville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, NC 28358 or a charity of choice.
