The heavens smiled on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2012, as it welcomed back a very valiant, witty and determined lady. Irene Bullough Hunter was born on Nov. 3, 1917, in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Ernest LeRoy and Hazel Taylor Bullough. She had many fond memories of her life in the Ogden area. She graduated from Ogden High School. Prior to her marriage she worked as a telephone operator and supervisor for Mt. Bell Telephone Co. She made numerous lifetime friends from her employment.

On Nov. 19, 1948, she married Lawrence (Larry) Hunter in the Salt Lake Temple and they shared a lifetime of happiness. It is said, "Behind every great man is a great woman," and Irene was a great woman. She supported her husband, Larry for years in his many civic and church duties. Irene will be remembered for her tender heart, her generous spirit, her sense of humor and her love of people. She had a passion for shopping and interior design. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. If you knew Irene your life was enriched.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served diligently in many different callings. She had a firm testimony of her Savior.
A true optimist she lived life fully. In her sixties she became legally blind but few people knew it because she was so upbeat and positive, always telling those around her how beautiful everything was. She was a great cheerleader for her children and grandchildren and spent countless hours with them. She was the last of her siblings to pass and is now enjoying a grand reunion with her beloved husband, parents, brothers and a very special grandchild, Blake. She was proud of her heritage and loved her cousins, nieces, nephews and friends very much. She will forever be in our hearts.
Irene wanted to give a special thank you to her devoted son-in-law David, for his tender care over the last several years.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Gregory) Van Zweden, Fruit Heights, Linda (David) Carver, Eden, UT. She has 7 grandchildren, Jamie (Nick) Froerer, Heidi (Randon) Tyson, Kelli (Chad) Booth, Nathan (Julie) Van Zweden, David (Kristin) Carver and Ashley (Dustin) Dayton. She has 17 ½ great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eternal companion, Larry; a grandchild, Larry Blake Van Zweden and 3 cherished brothers and their spouses, Glen and (Irene), Gene and (Betty) and Gordon and (Carol) Bullough. A heartfelt thanks goes to Nurse Bonnie and the CNA's at Applegate Hospice, they were angels to all of us.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Weber School Foundation or Primary Children's Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT 84404. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
