GRANDVIEW - Iva Van Horn, 91, of Grandview, went to be with her Lord on June 2nd, 2008 at her home in Grandview.

Iva was born June 9, 1916, in Cohasset, Minn. to John and Ellen (Scales) Van Patter. In January 1917 the family moved to Outlook, Washington. They later moved to their home on Independence Rd.

Iva attended school at Independence Grade School, Outlook and Granger High Schools and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1935. After high school Iva returned to Sunnyside where she met George Van Horn, and they were married September 6, 1936. During the next 30 years Iva and George were in the grocery business and farming in the Yakima Valley.

Iva is survived by 6 children: Marjorie Rank (Yakima), Ron (Valerie) Van Horn (Portland), Linda Wertenberger (Kennewick), Gloria (Doug) Hall (Grandview), Gary (Sally) Van Horn (Haymarket, VA), and Mary Ann (Mike) Sauve (Grandview), and 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Iva was a member of the Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church where she was active in the Brethren Church Quilting Circle. Iva won many awards during her years of quilting. She made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.

During her years of employment she worked at Stokely's Inc. and Libby's Inc.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents John and Ellen Van Patter; brothers, Mark, Leonard and Winton Van Patter and sisters Nettie Dexter, Mary Kinkade, Phoebe Johnson, Amy Herin and Effie Lay.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to Lower Valley Hospice.

Viewing for Iva Van Horn will be Friday, June 13, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Grace Brethren Church at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, WA.
