Mrs. Katherine L. Engel, 79, widow of William A. Engel, Washington hotel owner and restauranteur, died yesterday at her home, 17 Aspen st., Chevy Chase, Md., following a long illness.
Mrs. Engel was the mother of Joseph W. Engel, president of the Chattanooga Lookouts Baseball Club and long-time scout for the Washington Senators.
A native of Baltimore, she had lived in the Washington area for 60 years.
Requiem mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Bethesda. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rockville, Md.
Besides her son, Joseph, she is survived by a daughter, Miss Charlotte A. Engel of the Chevy Chase address; three other sons, Arnold C. Engel of Washington, William A. Engel of Midland, Tex., and Francis H. Engel of Chevy Chase; and three grandsons, Arnold C., jr of Washington, F. William and Robert S.
