Obituary: DuQuoin Tribune, October 1878: "DIED. CAMPBELL - on the 14th inst. - McDonald Campbell, one of the pioneers of this county, aged 85 years and 8 months. He was a soldier of the war of 1812 and a soldier of the cross for 50 years... For the last 33 years entirely blind, and most of the time crippled..."

McDonald Campbell's spouse, Sophia or Sophie Snyder Campbell was born 1795 and died 1873; she was also buried at the Brayshaw cemetery. Their daughter Millie Campbell married Carlisle Brayshaw. Another daughter, Margaret Jane Campbell married Helvitius Brayshaw. A son, George Washington Campbell married Sarah Ann Pyle.
