Funeral is 3 p.m. today at Carothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Wilson P. Rhoton, Jr. officiating. Burial is in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is at the home of Patty Jacobs
103 S. Ransom St., Gastonia.
A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Maggie Skidmore Murphy. Hew as an outstanding athlete for Belmont High School in the 50's, a veteran of the US Army and later served with the USMC Reserves. A former member of First Presbyterian Church, Mount Holly, he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Tony Jacobs of Gastonia and Cindy and Johnny Arrant of Rock Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Rosa Murphy of Belmont; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Robert Lewis of Belmont and Margaret and Lanford Brackett of Clover, SC; a granddaughter, Amber Jacobs; a grandson, Don Arrant; five nephews and three nieces.
Pallbearers are Dr. Martin Murphy, Jim Biggerstaff, Craig Long, Doug Mauldin, Tommy Lee, Gary Cannon, Sonny Warren and Woody McCall.
