CLAY CENTER-- Richard Chestnut, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville.

Mr. Chestnut was born July 21, 1918 in Clay County, the son of William and Martha (Richard) Chestnut.

He graduated from CCCHS in 1936. He married Betty Johnson on May 2, 1953 at Viola. He was a farmer/stockman in the 4-Mile community south of Clay Center. He was a member of the 4-Mile Presbyterian Church and later the Clay Center Presbyterian Church. He served as an elder for both congregations. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Henry and one sister, Mary Jean Fowles.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Chestnut of Clay Center; two daughters, Christine Brinkman and husband Jim of Clay Center and Patty Chestnut of Clay Center; three sons, Mark Chestnut and wife Marsha of Whitesboro, Texas, David Chestnut of Canton and Arlan Chestnut and wife Holly of Clay Center; two brothers, William Chestnut Jr. of Mission and Bruce Chestnut and wife Lavone of Clay Center; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 at the First Presbyterian Chuch, Clay Center, with the Rev. James Byers officiating. Burial will be in Republican City Cemetery, Clay County.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church or Leonardville Nursing Home in care of the funeral home, 918 7th St., Clay Center, KS 67432.
