Sheldon R Carter

1950 ~ 2012

Shelden R Carter, age 61, passed away Sunday morning February 12, 2012 surrounded by his sons and their mother Shelly at home in American Fork, Utah.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, and friend who loved everyone and was always looking out for others.

Shelden battled cancer for over 2 years and was determined to get all he could out of life - especially more time with his family. He graciously appreciated all the doctors, nurses, and other care givers who cared for him. Always joking and making everyone smile in his presence.

Shelden was born in Lovell, WY, Nov. 21, 1950 to Norval Edwin Carter and Alice Roberts Carter.

He grew up in Byron, WY and graduated from Byron High School in 1969. In high school, he excelled in athletics and academics. Shelden met Shelly Sessions in high school, and married June 10, 1970.

After attending Northwest Community College in Powell, WY, he continued his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. graduating with a degree in Business Management. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Wyoming in 1976. Shelden began his law practice at the Utah County Public Defender's office in Provo, UT.

After a short while, he started his private practice. He tenaciously continued to work between chemotherapy treatments until Dec. 2011; surprising everyone with his ability to successfully push on despite his personal battle.

Shelden's family was his greatest joy. If he wasn't at work, he was picking up grandchildren from school for a fun time, sitting on the sidelines at ballgames, school programs, or just playing with them and taking them wherever they wanted to go. Parks, swimming pools, toy shopping, pizza, ice cream - he was an easy touch and his sons and grandchildren knew they would get whatever they wanted from Grandpa. They put a Super Grandpa' sticker on his truck window advertising what they thought of him.

He is survived by his ex-wife - who cared for him through his illness - Shelly Sessions Carter, and three sons: Shawn of Salt Lake, Brandt (Karren) of Pleasant Grove, and Brannon (Kelle) of Pleasant Grove. Six grandchildren: Calvin, Kylee, Kelson, Kaleb, Korman, and Kambry.

Also, his family: Sharon Carter Dusenberry (Bill); Brent Carter (Glenna) Sue Carter Lewis (Joe); Dan Williamson (Colleen); Sheila Williamson Becker (Wayne); Don Williamson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Norval and Alice, brother Kent, and infant sister, Sherry Lee.

Shelden's family, relatives and friends will remember his fun loving, adventurous spirit and his kindness to everyone.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 18, 2012, in the LDS chapel at 3500 N. 1270 W. Pleasant Grove, UT. (a few blocks NE of Mt. Timpanogos Temple in American Fork) Services begin at 11:00 a.m., with a short visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Provo Cemetery.

A visitation with friends and family will also be held Friday night, February 17th at Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 N. 900 E. in American Fork from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
