Henry Garrelts
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Feb. 17, at Hope Lutheran Church in Springfield for Henry John "Hank" Garrelts of Eugene, who died Feb. 13 of cancer. He was 84.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born July 31, 1927, in Lincoln Township, Neb. [there are numerous Lincoln Townships listed throughout Nebraska; it is unknown at this time which community is the correct pace of birth], to John and Freda Garrelts. He married Barbara Banton in 1953 in Springfield. She died in 1970. He married Colleen Pattison in 1974 in Eugene. She died in 1992.
He was a high school graduate. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a shipping supervisor for Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co.
Survivors include his girlfriend of 15 years, Patricia Taliferrio; a son, David of Springfield; four daughters, Debra Dow, Diane Pancake and Donna Garrelts, all of Springfield, and Darla Stafford of Eugene; a stepson, Patrick Hottenstein of Eugene; a stepdaughter, Charleen Spurlin of Albany; three brothers, Melvin of Springfield, Harold of Springfield and Dale of Springfield; three sisters, Delores Eisel of Springfield, Lavon Culp of Springfield and Ruth Madden of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Three great-grandchildren died previously.
Private burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.
