Funeral services for Luther Elbert Darnell, 65 years of age, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Baptist church with the Rev. Harvey Morrison in charge. Burial was in Brookside. Mr. Darnell died at the St. Joseph Hospital, Louisville, Saturday night where he was a patient. A native of Russell Springs, Mr. Darnell had long lived in Campbellsville where he was actively engaged in farming until his last illness. He was a member of the Baptist church and was held in high esteem. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Stella Hayes Darnell and children: Lester Darnell, Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. D. C. Partin, Alexandria, La.; Mrs. Tom Burress, Greensburg; Mrs. F. E. DeSpain, Biloxi, Miss.; Mrs. Garnett Shuffett, of Boston, Mass.; Miss Alma Darnell, Louisville; James Darnell, with the U. S. Army in England; and Misses Neva, Ruby and Elberta Darnell, at home. He also leaves two sisters: Mrs. M. C. Alley, Russell Springs, and Mrs. S. T. Hale, Font Hill, Ky. Pallbearers were: C. V. Bryan, Charlie Newcomb, Abel Harding, Allison Shipp, Fred Graham, and Sgt. Jake Campbell. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, November 18, 1943
