Archie's parents are James Terry McLeod and Mary Ella "Mollie" Bennett. The McLeods and Bennetts lived in the Rockingham-Ellerbe area of Richmond County, North Carolina, throughout the 1800s.

Archie was married twice. First in 1924 to Mary E. Griffith (pictured together above in 1925-1926) who was from Monroe Township, Union County, North Carolina. She died at age 33 on the day their only child, a daughter named Mary Griffith McLeod, was born. Sadly, the baby died five months later in December 1927.

In 1938, Archie married Birdie Lucinda (nee Cooper) Amator Lytle, originally from Rison, Arkansas. He was her third husband. Birdie survived him by 10 years. Archie and Birdie made their home in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he worked as a lumber merchant/dealer. They had no children.

First wife Mary and their infant daughter are buried in the Griffith family plot in Monroe, Union County. Archie is buried in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, with his 2nd wife and stepson.
