In 1861 he was listed on the census with his grandfather Thomas Meehan in Buckinghamshire, indicates his birth location was London, Middlesex County. His mother Rachel, a dressmaker, married Edward Eayrs/Eayres June 20 1849 Buckingham. She married Thomas Pratt, a drill instructor June 13 1859, Old Church, St. Pancras, London, England.

Walter and his THREE brothers Edwin William Edmunds, Thomas James and Charles Ernest Edward all came to the US about 1869/70.

Walter was naturalized in 1890 Boston, Massachusetts. (Note: name Pratt is also referenced on this record because that is the name used when he immigrated in 1869)
