Melvin Dewey Grant was a son of Jasper Newton Grant and Phoebe Phillips Grant. He was married for 61 years to Joyce Baker Grant. They made their home in Lowell, NC. Melvin and Joyce Grant were the parents of three children:
1. Melvin Randell Grant (deceased);
2. Rodney William Grant; and
3. Robin Grant Vanderlip
In addition to his wife and two above-named children, he was also survived by a sister, Sara Grant Usery and two grandchildren, Jason Randell Grant and Jessica Vanderlip Pope and by 5 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Lowell, NC; and was a Mason in the Lowell Lodge for over 50 years. He was retired from the textile industry. In high school, he was a pitcher on the baseball team, and he enjoyed golf and bowling. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
