BARDSTOWN - GREENWELL, VERNA MAE, 92, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at her residence in Bardstown. She was born January 20, 1920 in St. Francis, formerly Chicago, KY, to the late Joseph Hugh and Anna Knott Smith. She was the past owner of Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home and is presently a partner at Bardstown Country Club "Maywood and Woodlawn Golf Courses" and is a member of Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. "Jimmy" Greenwell; and two sons, James B. "Jim" Greenwell Jr. and J.I. Greenwell. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Haydon (Jodie), of Bardstown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, Caroline, Christopher, Haydon, Nicholas and Miller Osborne, Amelia and Hilary Pehlke; one brother, Ted Smith, of Louisville; one sister, Rosemary Browning, of LaGrange, several nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Carolyn Thompson, Helen Tingle, Lisa Lewis, Leanne O'Bryan, Pat Gilbert and Judy Hutchins. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 - 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday. Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may go to Hospice of Nelson County or St. Joseph School.
