Services Held Friday for Miss Hammons
Miss Pearl Hammons, who came with her family to the Texas-Oklahoma state line area more than 70 years ago, died a few minutes after midnight Thursday, May 19.
She had lived in Wellington 35 years and was a resident of Thomas Nursing Center 17 years. Miss Hammons came with her parents, the late Mr and Mrs W H Hammons to the Opal Community from New Mexico where Mr Hammons had homesteaded in 1908,
She was born December 25, 1891 in Corinth, Mississippi, where both her parents were also born. The family moved first to Parsons, Fannin County, where Miss Hammons received her education. She lived in Aubrey a number of years before returning to make her home in Wellington. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Friday May 20 in Schooler-Gordon Chapel, with the Rev Tom Thomson, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was in Independence Cemetery under the direction of Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors.
Survivors are a brother Leslie Hammons of Wellington and one sister. Mrs Una Allen of Altus, Oklahoma, Larry Hammons of Wellington is a nephew.
Pallbearers were Sam Adams, Alvin Horton, Larry Hammons, Bob Allen, Raymond Lee and Jolly Downs.
