Epp had two wives. His first wife was Minerva/Manerva Reese whom he married April 1, 1840. By Minerva Epp had John Thomas, Sarah E., Winney , Benjamin, and Martha, called Mattie. The 1850 census of Lincoln County shows a Stephen, born the same year as John T. It is unknown if this is a clerical error or if there was a son who died before the 1860 census or if he was in fact a twin to John T. There was a girl named Winney on the 1850 born in 1845, but she never appears again after that. Benjamin shows to have been born in 1846, but he too disappears. John T., Sarah E. and Mattie all survived to adulthood. The date of Minerva's death is unknown, but it was apparently 1850.

On December 16, 1850, Epp married a widow by the name of Clarinda Catherine Webb, whose maiden name was Templeton. By Clarinda Epp had W. Ezra born in 1852, Mary Jane born in 1854, Newton born in 1857, Melissa/Malissa born in in 1860, and Epp, Jr born in 1864. Little has been learned about W. Ezra. Newton died before the 1870 census.
There are no records with what his full name might have been. Not even his CSA service record has more than his place of birth as Limestone County, AL. His assumed brother William who served at exactly the same time almost to the day was also born in Limestone, AL. Both men were past age, and were released from service a day apart. Neither man ever went into battle as far as the records show. They were absent taking care of crops more than they were present. Fold 3 has complete records for both men. Ydna studies show that a descendant is related to the family of Willliam Hardin/Harding and Martha Malone. The Martha Malone name would explain why his one daughter was named Martha.
When his death was announced in the local paper, it stated he died from the effects of a kick to the head from a mule.
There are 4 pages added by Elaine Bean at my request on
the page. Deed Book II, pp 117-119. Lincoln County, TN. They detail all living heirs in 1900. The other page is his discharge from service in CSA, Dec 1862. See all photos.
