died in Conway of pneumonia at age 68 after a four-day illness; son of Alfred [sic] and Lucy Bates, born in Conway; was for many years a teamster for the late Solomon Pease and the Tucker & Cook Company; for the last dozen years or more he was in the business of garden truck and vegetables; married Dec. 2, 1872 [sic] to Laura Culver of Shelburne Falls; survived by his widow, a sister Mrs. Carrie Boyden of Conway, and five sons, Fred of Waterbury, Vt., Adelbert of Springfield, Henry of North Adams, and Howard and Walter of Conway.
