Mike Miceli, 70, of Gulf Shores, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Jeannie Miceli; and daughter, Cayne Miceli.
A true local, Mike grew up on the beaches and in the forests of Gulf Shores where he developed a life-long passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He graduated from Auburn University and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps Special Ops Detachment Alpha 2124. Mike was an active member of the community serving on the Gulf Shores City Council, as well as the board of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. He volunteered for the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, was a member of the Marine Corps League, and a lifetime member of the Gulf Coast Gun Collector's Association.
A hard-working businessman, Mike had a big heart and never missed an opportunity to help a friend in need or to lend an ear and a shoulder to cry on. He had a great sense of humor and spread joy and laughter wherever he went. A true local legend, Mike has touched uncounted lives. With his passing, a part of Gulf Shores will be gone forever, but he will live on in our memories as a genuine local, an active community leader, a devoted Patriot, and the real "Catman of the Gulf State Park."
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m., at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores. A reception will follow in the church hall.
