Maria Catharina Henckel, who immigrated to the new world in 1717 at the age of 6,
was first married to Johann Georg Geiger, who died in 1739 in the Monocacy Valley,
Maryland, leaving at least four children and his widow. In 1740, she remarried
Johann Peter Apfel (Apple)(??-1779), who had immigrated 17 October 1732 on the ship
"John & William" with his first wife, Appolonia. Peter Apple and Catherine Henckel
were the parents of at least five children.
Maria Catharina and Johann Peter Apple are buried in the cemetery at Apple's Church,
Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland. Peter Apple was the donor of the land upon
which the church and cemetery stand, giving it to trustees Mathias Ambrose, Sr.,
Jacob Matthews, and Jacob Ambrose, son of Mathias. Jacob Matthews is my sixth great
grandfather.
Peter and Catherine Apple's daughter, Anna Maria, was married to my fifth great
uncle, Heinrich "Henry" Matthews; we do not know where she is buried but suppose it
to be in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
