Barry Wayne Barker, age 84, of Lockney, died Sunday, February 12, 2012. Funeral services are Wednesday, February 15, 2012, 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Lockney with Reverend Ricky Carstensen and Chaplain Charles Carmen officiating. Burial will precede the service at the Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney.

Barry was born March 13, 1927 in Floydada and graduated Lockney High School in May 1944. He went Schriner College in Kerrville for one year and then joined the Navy in 1945. He was honorably discharged August 6, 1946. He returned to Texas and attended West Texas State College for 2 years. After college he went into business with his dad and brother, Art Barker in Lockney Auto Company which was part of Lockney for 40 years. In 1967, Barry and Art started Barker Insurance which eventually became Barker Realty. Barry was a Master Appraiser and realtor until his retirement in 2007. During his last years he has served the Salvation Army as Financial Chairman. He enjoyed helping people with utility bills, food supplies, travelers with room and food, toys for children at Christmas and gift boxes of food for the elderly and shut in's.

Barry was Lockney's Outstanding Citizen in 2011; honoring him for his Salvation Army work and lifelong community service.

In 1954, he married Algene O'Daniel in Tulia. They have made their home in Lockney for 57 years and have two children. One son, Brent Wayne and Lou Ann Watson Barker of Keller, Texas; one daughter, Beverly Irene Barker of Corpus Christi. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Brittany Barker Duniven and husband Tyler Duniven of North Richland Hills, Jefferson Brent Barker of Lubbock and BreAnn Barker, of Keller, Texas. He is also survived by one great grandson, Carter Duniven.

The family suggests memorials be made to Lockney Salvation Army, P.O. Box 518, Lockney, Texas 79241, or First United Methodist Church, 102 W. Poplar St., Lockney, Texas 79241, or the charity of choice.
