James Corbett May 31, 1893

James Corbett, a pioneer of Greenbush this county, and for ten or a dozen years past a resident at the edge of this village on the Plymouth Road, died Wednesday morning, May 31st, about 4 o'clock, aged sixty-seven years.
Mr. Corbett, although not in robust health for some months, had been about and quite active. He was down town Tuesday forenoon until 11 o'clock, when he went home, and arranged his buggy for preparation to attend the Memorial Day ceremonies. He sat down to dinner, but could neither eat nor drink anything. At the suggestion of his wife he then laid down for a rest, and cautioned her not to let him sleep to long. He slept sound and when she tried to awaken him her efforts were without avail. Becoming alarmed she then called in a neighbor and Dr. Cody was summoned. Relatives and friends were also soon on hand to assist if necessary and at about four he was awakened, whereupon he inquired in a bewildered sort of way, the time of day and what the people were there for. He remained awake about two hours during which time he seemed rational and said his trouble was about his heart, though he fell asleep again and failed to awake, breathing his last about 4 o'clock the following morning.
A widow and four children survive, Dr. Fremont Corbett of Weyauwega, Charlie Corbett of Chicago, Mrs. G. L. Gilman and George Corbett of Plymouth. Chas. Alexander and Lester Corbet of Greenbush are brothers of deceased and Mrs. Sarah Barrager of Crete, Neb., is a sister. The deceased was a private in Co. G, 36th Reg. Wis. Vol, Infy., and a member of Jairus Richardson Post GAR of this village.
The funeral will be held Friday at the house, when the remains will be taken to Greenbush for interment, further service being held there in the M. E. Church. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.
