AUGUSTA - Mrs. Margaret 'Marge' Gilbert Adams, 83, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in Select Specialty Hospital of Augusta.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, SC, with Dr. James St. John officiating.
Mrs. Adams was born in Richmond County, GA, daughter of the late Margaret Gray Gilbert and Eugene T. Gilbert Sr. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in history, and taught 4th grade for many years.
She and her husband moved to Columbia, SC, in 1958, where she was very active in the community. She was past president of the South Carolina Medical Association Auxiliary and past president of the Opera Guild of Greater Columbia.
Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James F. Adams, sisters, Claire Braddock and Ann Gilbert ,and her brother, Eugene T. Gilbert Jr.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her niece, Margaret Gray Gilbert, nephew, Eugene'Gene' T. Gilbert III and wife, Judith, all of Augusta, GA, three great-nephews, Bryce C. Shipman of Charleston, SC, Eugene 'Thomas' Gilbert IV and Andrew Hampton Gray Gilbert, sister-in-law, Rita J. Gilbert, all of Augusta, GA, and two cousins, Thomas 'Tom' Gray and wife, Elise, of Savannah, GA, and Janet Gray Burnet of St. Simons, GA.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation for all of the support, friendship and love given by Kathleen Vandekieft-Wright, Dr. John Wright and their family, and a special thank you to her caregivers and friends, Tomasina Parks, Denise Pierce and Joann Pound.
No visitation is scheduled. Those desiring to attend the services are asked to meet in Elmwood Cemetery on Monday.
