Upton County, Texas Deputy Sheriff, Charles Albert Renfro, was shot and killed while responding to a burglary call at a local lumber and hardware store. As he entered the building, he was struck by three shotgun blasts. The suspects fled the scene and attempted to steal a car from a nearby processing plant the following day. One of the plant's managers shot and killed one of the suspects. The second suspect was arrested and charged with capital murder.
Deputy Renfro had been with the agency for 5 years and was survived by his wife, one daughter and one son.
He is also survived by his father, John S. Renfro; and one brother, James Renfo.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Mrs. Dovie Renfro.
He is buried at Colorado City Cemetery in Colorado City, Texas.
