Frances was my paternal grandmother and lived with us until she passed. She was always active in our church, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in San Antonio. She would work at the Sunday evening bingo, she was in the Altar Society and one of the founders of the Golden Age Club. She even worked the voting precints as a Precint Judge.She was also an Avon Saleslady.
She picked my brother and I up from school everyday. It didn't matter that my parents told her we needed to walk - it was good for us. We would come out at 3:00 and there she was waiting for us.
In the evenings you would find her sitting in her recliner watching t.v. and crocheting. She could crochet and carry on a conversation without missing a stitch. Many times I would sit with her and talk and watch her work. I regret never taking the time to fully learn her craft from her. Her work was excellent.
Grandma passed away in a local hospital after being taken there with congestive heart failure. My uncle and I had been up to visit her and she looked great. She asked us to pick her up some candy from the local market but he told her to wait until the doctor said it was okay. She passed not long after we left.
She was a wonderful lady and well liked and missed by many. I can't wait to meet up with her again and show her that I have taught myself to crochet. Maybe not as good as she did, but not too bad either.
