Mr. George was born January 16, 1925, in Stokes County, to Fletcher R. and Georgia Owens George.
He served our country in the United States Army during World War II and was a retired cabinetmaker. Mr. George was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lula Owens George of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Paul Gach of Concord; stepdaughters, Glenda Jessup and husband Lynn of Winston-Salem, Susan Arrington and husband J.R. of Mount Airy, and Faye Slawter and husband Steve of Dobson; a stepson, Howard C. Hunter and wife Sharon of Hillsville, Va.; two grandchildren, Corrine Gach and Maura Gach, both of Concord; a sister, Kathleen Marshall of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Brooks and Ila Mae George of Mount Airy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary J Hall George; sisters, Lucille Vaden, Lolene Jackson, Eunice George, Erna Rogers, Helen Wood, and Frances Carson; and brothers, Coy George, Enas George, Glenn George, and Swanson George.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. James Gibbons, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, 301 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
