Charles Calvin Claxton, 76, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at an Abilene hospital.

The funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, in Abilene with Rev. Jim Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Round Mound Cemetery.

Mr. Claxton was born to Annie Mae (Stevens) and Hughie Claxton on November 24, 1927, in Abilene, Texas, where he later married Hazel Hines on October 1, 1949. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and retired after a career as an architect superintendent. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland.

He was predeceased by a son, Jeffery Lynn Claxton (d.1976); his parents; a brother, Lonnie Claxton (d.1986); and two sisters, Frances Varnadore (d.1986), and Juanita Sartor (d.2004).

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Claxton of Ranger; a son, Randy Claxton of Aledo, TX; three daughters, Sheila Kay Anthony of Crowley, TX, Charlene Lorenzo of Deerfield Beach, Florida, and Becky Brittain of Galveston; four grandchildren, Justin Anthony, Atley Rawlins, Sharde Rawlins, and Akasia Rawlins, and a great- grandchild, Ashton Lee Rawlins. He is also survived by a brother, Odell Claxton of Albuquerque, N.M. and four sisters, Lerline Duncan, Dulcy St. ‘Pierre, Ruth Maxwell, and La Vern Mooty, all of Abilene.
