Essie Mae Mills, 74, of Salem, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2007. People knew her best through her employment with Burger King for over 12 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oakly and Ocie Yopp; special partner, Guy (Slim) Ridpath; daughter, Ellen Sue Walters Bittner; brother, Freddie Yopp; and sister, Betty Turman. Her surviving family includes her son, Rodger Mills and wife, Kathy; daughter, Barbara Spencer and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Calvin, Michael, Shenna, and Justin; four great grandchildren; and special friends, Snookie and Sarah. The family will recieve friends on Sunday, April 8, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 554 Roanoke, VA 24003. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
