This Henry is my first cousin, 5 times removed. He is the son of my 4th ggranduncle Georg Ludwig "Lewis" Sweitzer 1740-1795, born somewhere in Germany and died in Hilltown, Bucks County, PA (not far from where my family lives even now)Lewis was supposedly a Mennonite Preacher, like Henry himself later in life. (I don't see the Mennonite thing in any of my other Sweitzer family) Henry's mother was Anna Kratz 1743-1806, born in Montgomery County, PA, died in New Britain Township, Bucks County. Henry was the seventh of nine children. Only the two oldest children remained in Eastern Pennsylvania, the others, like Henry, moving west to seek their fortune. Henry married Ann Elliott Bowman on March 12, 1818, in Brownsville. They had seven children, two of whom were the famous Civil War Generals, Jacob Bowman Sweitzer #12144574 and Nelson Bowman Sweitzer #5956003. Henry left Bucks County at an early age and went to Hagerstown, Maryland but left there for Brownsville about 1817. He ran for Sheriff in Hagerstown in 1812, after being Undersheriff for a time. Henry was a very successful real estate investor, businessman and politician over the years.
Henry was the grandson of Conrad Sweitzer/Schweitzer ca.1706-1770, #85627913 who brought his four children, but not a wife, with him from Germany landing in Philadelphia Sept. 15, 1749, aboard the ship Edinburgh. The children were Simon ca.1737-1798 (my ancestor), Lewis, Henry b.ca.1745, and Elisabeth. Henry the elder also looks to have left Germantown, Philadelphia, for Brownsville as I have just found a sale of some of his estate in January 1833, in Hagerstown, Maryland, having died sometime in 1832 apparently.
