Jack E. Gustine -- Pine Island
PINE ISLAND -- A memorial service will be held for Jack E. Gustine at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel in Pine Island with the Rev. William Kelm officiating. The body was donated to Mayo Clinic for medical research.
Mr. Gustine, 76, of Pine Island, a retired carpenter and cabinet maker, died Sunday (April 2, 2000) at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island following a lengthy illness.
Born June 14, 1923, in Virgil, S.D., he moved to Pine Island with his family at age 3, grew up here and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1942. On Dec. 27, 1942, he married Phyllis Schletty in Pine Island. She died Aug. 2, 1996. A self-employed carpenter and cabinet maker, he retired in 1992. Mr. Gustine was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Pine Island and served on the Pine Island Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail (Mrs. Jack) Rucker of Oronoco; a son, Paul of Pine Island; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friend, Virginia Mohlke. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
