David Grant Hall, 87, lifelong resident of Cleveland, died March 7, 2010 after a long fight with Parkinson's and diabetes. He was preceded in death by his parents Edna Hobbs Hall and John Grant Hall. He graduated from Bradley High in 1941 and UT Knoxville in 1949.

Dave grew up in St Luke's congregation, served as an alter-boy and usher, and church members set their clocks by him until he grew too ill to attend services.

In WWII he flew 25 combat missions as a B-17 copilot, earning the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Unit Badge. Dave lived for his sports, from high school place kicker (scoring 22 of the 25 points his senior year) to shooting sporting clays at age 83. He started water skiing at 37, and won three dozen trophies in five years. The Old Timer's Club Hall of Fame inducted him as the first Water Skier in 2001. He was also an avid bowler and golfer for many years.

Dave got his first motorcycle at 55, his last at 78, and rode every state in the lower 48. One 4500 mile trip with 8 friends was organized by Ed's Cycles and filmed for Yamaha.

He was married three times: To Dorothy Love of Athens, Lillian Davis Vedder of Sumter SC, and Eunice J. Hill of Chattanooga. He is survived by brother George T. Hall of Tyler, TX, daughters Sherry (Hall) Hagstrom of Bainbridge Island, WA and Beth (Hall) Fordham of Sumter, SC, sons Mark K. Hall of Cleveland and Joe Hall of San Diego, CA, also Nickie Samuelson of Cleveland and Randy Carroll of Chattanooga. He leaves 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 pm Saturday, March 27, 2010 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Friends are invited to join the family for a remembrance celebration one hour prior to the service at St. Luke's Parish Hall. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Luke's.
