Rev. John Pittenger
The Rev. John M. Pittenger, former pastor of the Beech Run Church of the Brethren and minister of the Church of the Brethren for 64 years, died Saturday, October 22, 1966 in the Drexel Hill Methodist Hospital. The 97-year-old Pittenger resided with his family at 5417 Chester Avenue, Drexel Hill.
The Rev. Mr. Pittenger retired from pastoral work in 1937. He had served as a missionary in India from 1904 to 1917 and, during the course of his calling had ministered churches in Ohio and Hunterdon County. Pittenger was well known to many of the residents of this ares.
He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Baker; a son, Joseph D. Pittenger; two daughters, Dr. Mary A. Pittenger and Mrs. John R. Burns; four grandchildren and a sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Church of the Brethren, Drexel Hill. Interment was made in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
