Clifford Lane was my birth grandpa Alonzo Lane's brother. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. After he came home he was a farmer as was his friend Louis.
He was 47 years old when he and his friend Louis Silsdorf 56 was struck by a hit and skip gasoline truck driver. Clifford and Louis were smashed between their vehicle and another. They were half a mile west of Onsted, MI.
We are not clear if it was the gasoline truck that they were smashed between or if the truck hit another vehicle. Louis died almost instantly and Clifford died around 5:30 a.m. in Bixby hospital.
The driver of the truck Walter Snead 33 had been drinking. He told the police he drove past the accident a couple of times. He went home and had his wife call the police for him. He was arrested at his home.
