Abraham Leander Reser was the son of John B. & Rebecca (maiden name unkn) Reser (both buried at Hale Cem., Johnsonville, Wayne Co., IL.)

He served in the Civil War in the 5th KY (Union) Cavalry, 13 Mar 1862. He was listed as AWOL from 26 Jul 1862 to 03 Feb 1864, at which time he was "restored with loss of pay and allowances whilst absent." His Military Pension is dated 01 June 1912; according to the application he was 5'10''tall, gray eyes, black hark, and dark shade. [Source: Rev. John D. Asbaugh at: [email protected].]

He married Ludy L. Lankford (buried at Citizens) on 9 Sep 1862; they had the following 8 children: Mary Ellen (John Qualls) b. 1863, d. 1895; Lara (Laura) B. (Johnny Lankford) b. 16 Feb 1866, d. in 1900; Rebecca (Rebekah) Elizabeth (Robert Lowrey Benge) b. 6 Sept 1868, d. 26 June, 1936; Winnie May (Thornton) b. 26 Aug 1875, d. 7 Apr 1904; Lula Angeline (Jack Sublett) b. 6 Jun 1878, d. 16 Jan 1959: Ida J. (1871) and Peter A. (1873), both died as infants; and Yulee M. b. 16 Jun 1881, d. 11 Nov. 1932.

Abraham & Ludy were from KY, but traveled a lot. Mary, Laura, Rebekah, and Winnie were born in IL according to the Census of 1880. Lula was born in KY, and Yulee M. was born in AR.

Abraham was left handed and played the fiddle, bass strings first. His fiddle was given to Teddy Taylor who was told that the fiddle had been in the family for generations.
