Jane (Raleigh) Russell, age 59 of Lake and formerly of Clare, passed away on September 13, 1989 in the American International Hospital in Zion, Ill.
She was born on March 7, 1930 in Saginaw, the daughter of Emory and Ella (Fuller) Burk. She married the Rev. William Raleigh and he predeceased her on July 17, 1979. She then married Roger J. Russell on May 16, 1981 in Clare.
Mr. Russell was a L.P.N. at the Clare Nursing Home and had retired in 1981. She moved to Clare from West Branch in 1965 and was a member of the Clare Church of the Nazerene and the Mt. Pleasant Area Christian Women's Club, serving on the board.
Surviving are her husband, Roger; one son, Mark Raleigh of Durand; five daughters, Rebecca Green of Colorado, Ruth Kile of Flat Rock, Rachel Garvey of Chesaning, Elizabeth Gramza of Clare and Sarah Willey of Clare; two step-sons, Kenneth Russell of Texas and Randall Russell of Lake; a step-daughter, Deborah Van Veghel of Missouri; 26 grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Burk of Traverse City and Merl Burk of Florida; two sisters, Mildred Pollman of South Carolina and Majorie Daniels of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Ronald Russell in 1988.
Funeral services were held on September 16 in the Clare Church of the Nazerene with her pastor, Rev. Greg L. Neer officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Memorials are suggested to the Organ Fund of the Clare Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements were by Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, Clare.
