ENOS M. BARTON DIES WHILE IN BILOXI, MISS.
Enos M. Barton, former head of the Western Electric company, millionaire and widely known in engineering and in club and business circles here, died yesterday at Biloxi, Miss. He had gone from his home in Hinsdale to the southern city for his health.
Mr. Barton was born Dec. 2, 1842, in Loraine, N. Y. He was educated in the public schools and at Rochester university, coming west and settling in Chicago in 1869, where he became connected with the Western Electric company. In 1872 he was made secretary of the concern and advanced to the vice presidency in 1887, to the presidency and then to the chairmanship of the board of directors. He was a trustee of the University of Chicago.
When he retired from active business life Mr. Barton devoted most of his time to the development of Sedgely farm an extensive estate a few miles south of Hinsdale.
The widow, Mrs. Mary Rust Barton, and five sons and two daughters, Alvin L., Malcolm S., Evan H., Gilbert R., Wilfrid C., and Clara M. Barton and Mrs. Katharine Barton Childs, survive.
