The New Holland Leader Thursday, August 24, 1933

Mrs. D.C. McCune, who has been making her home with her son, William McCune and family, south of town, passed away at her residence at about 8:00 o'clock Sunday morning, following a long illness.
Mrs. McCune and her husband lived the greater part of their lives near this vicinity and in Fayette county on the Humphrey Jones farm.
However, of late years, the aged couple have been making their home with their children.
She enjoyed a wide acquaintance in this community and Fayette county.
Besides her husband, six sons, including William and Leland, of this community, survive. Two daughters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted from the M.E. church at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. W.B. Rose, former pastor here, reading the final ceremony. A large host of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last tributes and the many floral offerings were exceedingly beautiful.
Interment was made in the family lot in the Washington C.H. cemetery, under the direction of A.W. Kirk. Six nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers.
Card Of Thanks
It is our desire to offer our sincere appreciation to our many neighbors and friends who so cheerfully aided us at the death of our dear wife and mother.
D.C. McCune and family.

The following obituary was written by Josie's husband, David C. McCune:
Mrs. Josie McCune, daughter of Allen and Mary Yerian was born in Jackson Co., Ohio June 5, 1863. Died August 20, 1933 aged 70 years two months and fifteen days. She leaves to mourn their loss a husband, six sons, 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and two brothers and a number of other near relatives and a host of friends for everyone that knew her was a friend...she had no enemies. She was united in marriage with David C. McCune December 24, 1883, to this union were born ten children, Harry H. McCune of Corbin, Ky., Charles R. McCune of Columbus, O., William C. McCune of New Holland, O., Elmer L. McCune of Washington C.H., O., Leland M. McCune of New Holland, O. and Herman D. McCune of Wilmington are left to mourn the loss of a loving Mother. Two daughters, Mrs. Lela Elva Fletcher and Mrs. Ollie M. Hutchison and two infant sons preceded her in death. She was united with the Presbyterian Church at Oakland, Jackson Co., O. at age 15 to which she held her membership till her marriage, after which she moved with her husband to Fayette Co., O. at which time she moved her membership by letter to the M.E. church in which she held her membership until a few years before her death. She moved her letter of membership for convenience to the M.P. Church to which she continued until death. Thus she held a continual unbroken devoted membership in some branch of the church in which she had abiding faith for 55 years. Thus she had confided to the writer many times although she loved life she had no fear of death and when the Master called her she was ready to go, thus the loss of a faithful and beloved wife to the husband and a kind and loving Mother to her children is to her a great gain.
