SHREVEPORT – Funeral services for Walter E. Wylie, 87, a native of Hillsboro, Texas, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 17 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel, Marshall Street, with the Rev. Stanford Parnell, associate minister of First Presbyterian Church, and retired Methodist minister, the Rev. Bentley Sloane, and the Rev. Carl Rhoades, associate minister of First Methodist Church, officiating. Masonic and American Legion rites will follow. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Wylie died Sunday Jan. 15, 1984, at V.A. Hospital, Shreveport, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Wylie was president and owner of Wylie Oil Map Co., located on Crockett Street, for thirty-eight years, and was well-known in oil circles throughout the Ark-La-Tex area. He retired in 1973.

A captain in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Wylie served on active duty throughout World War I. Following navy service, he joined the Merchant Marine. Based in Galveston, Texas, with Daniel Ripley Line, he served as captain on ships for five years.

In 1972, Mr. Wylie was recognized as a fifty-year member of Lowe-McFarlane American Legion [Post No. 14]. He was also a member of the Forty and Eight and Caddo Chapter of the local Toastmaster Club.

Mr. Wylie was also a fifty-year member of Harmony Lodge No. 6, Galveston, before transferring to Joppa Lodge in Shreveport. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of El Karubah Shrine. Until retirement, he was a member of the Shreveport Geological Society.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church, he was a deacon and member of the Men's Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sanders Wylie; a daughter, Mrs. Lemual J. Willis, Dallas; two grandsons; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Cecil L. Falmar.

Pallbearers: Arthur Trowbridge, John Redfield, John Files, Frank Dodson, L. C. "Hookie" Cameron, Bennie Reeves and William Fitzhugh.

Honorary: Dr. Frank T. Dienst, Dr. M. W. Callaway, Shreveport, Dr. Ralph Boulware, Stamps, Ark., former Governor of Arkansas, Sid McMath, Little Rock, Ark., members of the Ark-La-Tex Oil Industry.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.
