HATTON RESIDENT SINCE 1887 DIES MARCH FOURTEEN

George Abbott Succumbs Following Illness of Influenza

George Abbott, oldest son of John and Mary Abbott was born in Glencoe, Ontario, May 5, 1860, and departed this life March 14, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 9 days.

He came with his parents and family to Lapeer county, Mich., when thirteen months of age, where he grew to manhood.

In the year 1887 he came to Clare county. In 1888 he took for his life’s companion and helpmate Miss Almeda Lyons. To this union were born six children, four girls and two boys, three daughters, Blanche, Clara, and Ruth preceding their father to the Great Beyond.

He has been in poor health for a number of years, and when stricken with an attack of the flu, his frail body was unable to hold out against the ravages of the disease.

His quiet, peaceable disposition has endeared him to his family and friends.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his companion, three children, George, Nail, and Bernice Smith, all of Grant township, nine grandchildren, one brother, Tom Abbott, of Clare, and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the home of his son, George in Grant township by Rev. Chas. Kleinhardt and interment in Cherry Grove cemetery. Clare Sentinel dated 1 April 1932
