SALISBURY - Maude Cates Earnhardt, 92, of Salisbury, died on Thurs., April 16, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Earnhardt was born April 17, 1916 in Spencer, to the late Currie R. and Maude Tucker Cates. Educated in the Spencer schools, she was voted most likely to succeed. She was employed for 35 years at Purcell's Department Store. Mrs. Earnhardt received a degree in Interior Decorating and then formed Maude Earnhardt Interiors. She was a renowned decorator for 35 years in Salisbury.
Mrs. Earnhardt was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Spencer, and a member of the Morning Glory Circle.
She volunteered at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center and was awarded a certificate for volunteering over 1000 hours.
Maude lived a happy, positive, and fulfilling life and will be missed by friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter F. Earnhardt on April 29, 1997, whom she married on May 19, 1934; and three brothers, Fred. C. Cates, Currie R. Cates, Jr. and Hugh Robert Cates.
She is survived by four nieces, Sandra Cates Camastra, Tracy Cates, Benita Cates Honeycutt, and Eva Davis; sisters-in-law, Margaret Cates of Spencer, Katherine Weaver of Salisbury and Naomi Cates, of Granite Quarry; and long time friend, Angie Fowler Smith.
