Zoe Adams James Christensen, 88, of Pleasant Grove passed away peacefully in Salem, Utah on Friday, February 3, 2012 at the home of her son, Russell C. James.

Zoe was born January 14, 1924 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Burton Henry and Eva May Eldridge Adams. She attended schools in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in May of 1942. She worked at Geneva Steel for Pittsburg Testing Labs as a typing and file clerk after high school. She attended BYU from 1942-43.

She married Robert Anderson James in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 23, 1945. The couple's four oldest children: Robert, Susan, Bruce, and Keith were all born in Malad, Idaho where the couple farmed the first ten years of marriage. They moved to Pleasant Grove in April, 1955 to assume the operation of her parent's farm. Their two youngest children: Russell and Neal were born while living in Pleasant Grove.

Zoe was a member of the Grovecrest Elementary PTA and served as the Legislative Chairman of the PTA from 1958-59. She was an accompanist at the American Heritage School in the 1970's. She was also a life-long member of the DUP as well as a member of the local LaVotta Club.

She particularly loved American Fork Canyon and Mutual Dell.

Zoe was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various callings in the Primary as well as being a Relief Society President. Most of her church service involved music. She played the piano and organ for various auxiliaries for most of her life. She was a sensitive accompanist and often served others in that capacity. She particularly enjoyed her time playing organ in the Provo and Timpanogos Temple.

Her husband Bob died on March 5, 1986. Zoe married J. Bruce Christensen on November 15, 1990. They were blessed to share nearly 21 years together before his death, living most of those years in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and the last 10 months caring for each other at the Summerfield Manor Retirement Center in Orem. She enjoyed being a stepmother to Bruce's children: Neal B. Christensen , Val J. Christensen (Lauralee), Ray L. Christensen (Deborah), Evan S. Christensen (Jean) , Boyd A. Christensen (Natalie), and Jeaneen Bingham (John) as well as 56 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both spouses, a brother, Gordon Adams; sister, Joan Adams Naylor and grandsons: Burton James and Curtis James. She is survived by two siblings: Dawn Adams Phelps Neal, Ventura, CA and Guymon Adams (Karin), Caracas, Venezuela; her children Robert Adams James (Linda), Salt Lake City, UT; Susan James Jensen (Gary), Springville, UT; Bruce Howard James (Joann), Denver, CO; Keith Burton James (Beth), Milford, UT ; Russell Curtis James (Kathy) Salem, UT and Neal Kemble James (Lisa), Orem, UT; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Orchard Ward Chapel, 828 South Locust Ave., Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewing Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
