Mr. Richard Bowles, A highly esteemed and respected citizen of Tibitha, died at his home last Tuesday night, February 16 at 7 o'clock. Mr. Bowles had been ill for about three weeks and suffered from heart trouble. He had been in poor health for two years, his advanced age made it impossible for his recovery. Two years ago he was confined to his bed for nine long weeks, but with skillful medical attention and careful nursing he recovered sufficiently to be able to go about the neighborhood. Mr. Bowles was born in Petersburg Virginia and was one of a large family assuming the care and responsibility of his mother and smaller children while his father was away from home engaged in the War between the States. He was united in marriage to Miss Sara Gill, of Gunyon, and to this union was born nine children. Mrs. Bowles and one son Joseph, preceded him in death some years ago. He leaves to mourn their sad loss seven sons, Messrs. Willie, Arthur, Ira, Roland, Howard and Loren Bowles of Tibitha, and one daughter, Mrs. Holly Haynie of Fairport, besides these 20 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Mr. Bowles was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and it can be said by all that knew him, that he was "a good man." a friend to the needy always ready to lend a helping hand and kind in every respect. His cheerful disposition won many friends. At the age of 24 he was baptized and United with the Baptist church to which he remained a member, although unable to attend divine services often on account of failing health, He was tenderly cared for in his last illness by the members of his family who were loyal and devoted in every way.
The burial service was held at Roseland, where he was laid to rest beside his devoted wife.
