ENOS H. BROWN, One of the well known and well liked men of Durham, Butte County, and a partner in the firm of Beck and Brown, blacksmiths, Enos H. Brown enjoys the confidence and good will of the community where he and his partner, Mr. G. Beck, have built up a prosperous business, which is growing to larger proportions as the town and countryside advance with the times. Besides blacksmithing, they do general repair work on farm machinery, automobiles, trucks, and wagons, are general agents for the Jeffrey touring car, and dealers in gas and oil. Both progressive and public spirited men, they have always been ready to help further all projects tending to the advancement of Durham, one such being the organization of the Commercial Bank of Durham, to which they lent their joint efforts toward building up and in which they are stockholders.
E. H. Brown is a native of Kansas, being born in Phillips County, May 8, 1881. When a lad he moved about with his parents, first to Nebraska, thence to Missouri, and back again to Nebraska. Deciding to try his fortunes in the west, he came to California, in January 1901, empty-handed but with strength of arm and the determination to succeed. His first employment was with Mr. Beardsley, a blacksmith at Bangor, Butte County, where he learned the trade thoroughly. He then became acquainted with Mr. Beck, his present partner, and soon after Mr. Beck started a blacksmith shop in Durham, Mr. Brown came to work for him and the second year thereafter the partnership was formed.
Mr. Brown's marriage, at Marysville, Cal., united him with Mrs. Malissa May Cantrell, a daughter of Milton and Mary Darby, of Bangor, Butte County. Her father has passed away but the mother is still living, one of the very first of the pioneers of Butte County. She spends her winters at the home of her daughter, in Durham, and her summers at her ranch in Bangor. Mr. and Mrs. Brown enjoy the comforts of a good home at Durham: and two children have blessed their fireside, Walter, and Sarah.

After the death of his wife, Melissa, Enos married Frances Isabell (Jones) Bray, the daughter of William Thomas & Mary Elizabeth (Myers) Jones.
