History - William S. Huntington died about 12:30 Thursday morning at the home of his mother, Mrs John D. Huntington, 96 State Street. Mr. Huntington was born in this city 50 years ago and he has spent much of his life here.
He was an expert dentist and a promoter and business man of high ability. Mr. Huntington qualified as a dentist when about 25 years of age, and entered into practice with his father, the late Dr. John D. Huntington, in this city. Later he went to New York, practicing there and in the South.
He was fond of travel and gratified his desire to such an extent that there are few countries in the world he had not visited. About five years ago Mr. Huntington returned to this city and assumed charge of the Ornamite Veneer Co., then having offices here.
The concern was in an almost bankrupt condition when he took it, but he soon put it on a paying basis. Headquarters were later transferred to Fulton and Mr. Huntington sold his interest and retired from the business.
Mr. Huntington was a lover of fine horses and at one time possessed one of the finest stables in this city. He was high in the order of Elks, a member of the Syracuse lodge. He instituted the order in this city. He was also a member of the uniformed rank Knights of Pythias.
About a year ago he suffered. trouble with his throat, caused by an injury when a boy, which assumed a serious nature. He underwent an operation in New York last November. On Dec. 26 he returned to this city, where he has since remained.
Besides his mother, he leaves a wife, and daughter Mrs. Orin Cross of Syracuse, a stepson and one brother. Dr. John F. Huntington of this city.
The funeral of William S. Huntington will be held from his mother's home. 96 State Street, at 2 Sunday afternoon.
Interment will be made at Brookside.
